Carp Fishing Locations

Carp Fishing Locations

Whilst the majority of carp fishing is enjoyed on lakes, there are also plenty of carp to be caught on rivers. Both water types offer advantages and disadvantages as well as different species of carp.

Below we have listed some different locations and water types that carp can be caught on. If you would like to add your fishing venue, or know of one we should include please contact us.

Lakes and Ponds

If you're aiming to catch carp the best bet is most definitely a lake. Carp lakes are everywhere and have been stocked so they overflow with carp of all different weights and species. Depending on lake depth, shape, and features, depends on which method and bait to use. Before fishing a lake speak to the owner, or others that fish it to find out which methods and baits work best. Don't be afraid to try your own methods and baits however, you may bring something which no one has thought of before, and end up catching the biggest carp in the lake!

Carp lakes tend to contain much bigger carp than rivers do for several reasons. Carp are stocked into the lake for the sole purpose of fishing, therefore the owners can pick the exact carp they want and can control their population a lot more easily. Also lake carp have very few predators so they can grow much bigger, much more quickly.

Rivers

River carp are much harder to target and catch than lake carp. However river carp tend to be stronger and much more muscular due to their habitat and surroundings. Many anglers who have caught river carp won't go back to lake carp as there is such a difference in fighting and landing them. Another advantage of river fishing is that you never know what species of carp the water contains. Lakes that have been stock are controlled by the owner, so you are limited to what you can catch.
